Pam East’s PreNamel

PreNamel is a fantastic metal prep for enameling that works great on both copper and silver. Enamel may not adhere to a surface that has not been properly prepared, or it may pop off or chip after firing. Before beginning to enamel, it is vitally important that the metal be clean and free of all oxides, oils, dust, soaps or other contaminants. PreNamel ensures the metal is ready for enameling. PreNamel is non-toxic. CLICK HERE to watch a video about PreNamel…

Pam East’s CounterNamel

CounterNamel takes all the fuss out of applying and firing counter-enamel. Applying CounterNamel to the back of an enameled piece to prevent the enamel from cracking was tricky with traditional enameling methods. The enamel tends to drop off the back of the piece, even with the generous use of enamel adhesives such as Klyr-Fire. CounterNamel makes the task of firing enamel to the front and back at the same time a snap! This unique lead-free formula creates a layer of enamel that is hard and secure both before and after firing. Simply add water and it’s ready to use! Pam East’s DeNamel

DeNamel is the sure-fire way to remove enamel from metal. Traditional methods of de-enameling required dangerous, caustic chemicals, or hours of drilling and grinding that left the metal a chewed up mess. Non-toxic DeNamel is safe, quick and easy to use! NOTE: You cannot selectively remove enamel. You must remove all the enamel. CLICK HERE to learn more about DeNamel…

She also wanted to make entry into enameling easy for newcomers to the metal clay arts and has created a fantastic enameling kit based on her 16 years of experience. Why is Pam Doing This?

Pam loves enameling on metal clay. She loves it so much and she wants everyone to have the opportunity to do it right from the start! This is why she loves teaching. Unfortunately Pam can only teach at a limited number of venues in a year, so teaching large number has been a problem. The solution? Produce an comprehesive set of instructional DVDs for enameling on metal clay.

Pam first started thinking about this project in 2007 shortly after the publication of her first book, Enameling on Metal Clay. Books are a great way to teach and reach people, but sometimes you need to actually see a process in action to really get it. Since then there have been so many new developments in the field of metal clay and enameling! Most notably has been the introduction of Copper Clay.

After considering the volume of material and issues pertaining to silver AND copper enameling, Pam determined the best solution would be to produce two separate DVDs, one for each metal. But she cannot do it without your help! Learn how to get your DVDs…

What will be included on the DVDs?

  • Designing metal clay for enameling.
  • Step-by-step instruction for constructing three metal clay projects per DVD. The projects will be different on each DVD.
  • Proper metal clay firing technique for pieces to be enameled.
  • Preparing fired metals for enameling.
  • Preparing enamels for use.
  • Step-by-step instruction for a variety of enamel application techniques, including counter-enamel (enamel on the back of the piece), sifting dry enamels, and applying enamels wet. Issues specific to each metal type will be addressed.
  • Enamel techniques such as graduated shading and working with opaques.
  • Proper firing of enamels for the specific metal type.
  • Finishing techniques.
  • Troubleshooting common problems.
  • YOUR name in the credits! (for certain pledge levels)

Joy Funnell’s Enamel Rings Class w/ RingCores

Join renowned enamel and metal clay artist Joy Funnell at CraftCast.com on Sunday, June 23 LIVE at 12 noon ET USA, for 90 minutes, as she shows you how to make and enamel fine silver rings using metal clay.  Learn traditional metal clay ring band making as well as how to work with RingCores™, an innovative product that gives you a perfect fit every time.  You can also purchase the recorded class any time after the live date above!

“RingCores are a great option when adding texture around the outer surface as there is very little chance of breaking anything because the liner is solid metal, and there are no sizing issues. With an all metal clay ring, breaking the ring band at the greenware stage is always a risk, especially for beginners.”  -Joy Funnell

  • Channeled styles provides rim in which to create (gives finished edge)
  • Textured styles provide for a sound mechanical bond
  • Smooth styles have highly polished outside and inside for smooth fit
  • Same metal clays fully sinter with RingCore liner
  • Retains exact ring size throughout the creative process
  • Highly polished outside and inside for a smooth fit
  • Made from high silver content alloy
  • Metal will not oxidize during firing
  • Silver versions have content higher than Sterling
  • Silver versions can be legally marked as Sterling
  • Simply apply a same metal paste layer and build upon it
  • Greatest strength during refining and finishing processes

RingCore™ ring liners are precision cast using the lost wax process for maximum density and strength that requires very little finishing and are about 20 gauge thick. They allow you a solid ring foundation of a specific ring size upon which to add simple to sophisticated creations with even the most delicate of design and will result in a solid creation with a long life. They are available in Silver*, Bronze and Copper in two widths.  RingCores™ can also be used for polymer and lamp work glass creations. *The silver alloy we use has a higher silver content than Sterling and can be legally marked as Sterling.

We spent months consulting with some of the most respected and gifted metal clay artists from around the globe to verify the functionality of the UltraLite Templates and to provide their own unique style and techniques. What they came up with truly blew our minds and went above and beyond what we could have ever imagined!  We hope you love this new series as much as our artist ambassadors do!

The high fashion QuikArt UltraLite Series was initially conceived due to rising prices of silver and gold.  We wanted a way for artists to be able to continue to create sizable pieces of art jewelry without blowing their budget.  The “papel picado” style of these templates can reduce clay usage by up to 50% compared to a traditional solid piece of similar size, while at the same time creating a lighter and more comfortable piece of jewelry!

Mix, match and stack designs from different templates to create amazing effects as showcased by some of our wonderfully talented artisans.  Add texture and holes for additional intrigue.
